We got tired of spreadsheets running the rota.
Shifter started in a bar where the manager rebuilt next week's rota every Sunday in Excel — printed it, taped it to the wall, then spent Saturday evening fixing swaps requested by WhatsApp.
We figured: rotas should be a calendar. Compliance should be checked before publish, not after. Swaps should leave an audit trail. Staff should see their week in the same calendar they already use.
So we built it. Hospitality-first because that's where the pain is sharpest. EU-first because that's where we live and where the labour rules we know best apply. Healthcare and retail followed naturally — the scheduling problem is the same.
